ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to determine the characteristics of adhesive-bonded joints of Aluminum alloy 2024 - T3 with mode I. The characteristics included the shear strength, critical strain energy release rate, compliance, and crack propagation. Adherends used in this research were aluminum 2024 - T3 plates in double-cantilever beam of 135x25x2 mm. The adhesive materials were Plastic Steel Epoxy, White 2 Ton Epoxy, Epikol Adhesive Epoxy, and Epoxy Resin. The materials for etching were hydrochloric and nitrioacids solutions with 1 : 1 compositions. Materials and instruments used, were solution for making surface roughness and surface roughness tester, heater for specimen curing, and tensile tester. The results 'showed that the greatest shear strenght was indicated by Epoxy Resin adhesive (t=13.692 MPa). The greatest rate of critical strain energy release was shown by Epoxy Resin adhesive (Gig = 1297.061 J/ m2). The greatest compliance was indicated by Plastic Steel Epoxy adhesive (C = 0.4303 mm/N), the greatest crack propagation was demonstrated by Plastic Steel Epoxy adhesive (Da = 85 mm ).
