Abstract

ABSTRAK The aim of the present study is to elucidate the influence of the motor vehicles in the traffic factors and various environmental factors with the ambient CO in Malioboro, Yogyakarta. The traffic factors were focused in the volume and speed of the vehicles, include motor bikes, cars, buses, and trucks, while environmental factors were focused in the speed. and direction of the wind, and the air temperature. The ambient CO was determined using a portable Monoxor 11 Carbomonoxide Analyzer "Bacharach". Measurement was carried out in the morning (between 06.00 to 08.00 am), daytime (11.00 toI3.00), and afternoon (between 16.00 to 18.00). Other parameters recorded were the number and the speed of motorbikes, cars, buses/trucks in the traffic, the speed and the direction of the wind, and the temperature of the atmosphere. Multiple linear regression with stepwise method was done to determine the strength of the relationship among independent variables. The statistical analysis was carried-out using the statistical program SPSS 7.5. The results showed a multi variate regression between dependent variable (CO ambient) and independent variables expressed in the following formula: Y = 0,194 - 0,862 x1 + 5,274 x2 + 1,063 x3 + 0,255 x4 - 0,076x5 + 0,377 x6 with R2 = 0,371 and P 5:0,05 (x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6 represent motorbike's speed (km/hour), wind speed (m/sec.), air temperature ("C), gasoline car's volume, motorbike's volume, gasoline car's speed (km/hour) respectively]. On the other side, ambient CO was contributed by the speed of motorbikes 27.1%, the wind speed 3.6%, air temperature 2.2%, volume of gasoline car 1,1%, voluthe of motorbikes 2.2%, and the speed of gasoline car 0.7%. In general, the ambient CO was correlates positively with the volume of the traffic, and inversely with the speed of the vehicles. Keywords: polusi udara, Kadar CO Ambien
