Abstract

The hydrogenation of isoprene (2-methyl-I,3-butadiene) proceeds at 273 K-288 K in methanol solvent in the presence of Pd/Al2D3catalysts to produce methylbutene isomers. The reactor was operated in semibatch with respect to hydrogen, whereas the liquid phase was in batch recirculating through a storage tank. The parameters of mass tranfer were estimated from correlations. The reaction kinetics and the mass transfer were included in a plug-flow type model for the monolith. The kinetic parameters were optimized using the Hooke-Jeeve method Simulation and the experimental result showed that the rate model proposed can be used in isoprene hydrogenation.
